This day long seminar conducted by IEEE Standards Association and CDAC in Bangalore on 4th July 2025.
Important takeaways from the presentations were:
– Sustainability research is Inter-disciplinary;
– Need to break past research Silos;
– It is important to solve Farmers problems in Agriculture; and
– Surveillance of Diseases is important, especially True after SARS, MERS and Covid outbreaks
Dr. M. S. Mohan Kumar, retired Professor from IISc spoke on Integrated Water Resources Management. This was followed by a presentation on Micro-irrigation taking the state of Gujarat’s context by Dr. Suparna Katyaini of CEEW. Next Dr Kesavan Subaharan of ICAR made a presentation of Soil and water dynamics on Pest Incidence. This was followed by a presentation by Dr. P V K Nageswara Rao of ICAR Hyderabad on Stable Soil Health for Safety.
The post lunch-sessions started with a panel discussion in which Prof Lakshminarayan Rao (IISc) and other members from CDAC and a CEO from a Start-up company working on Sensor-based Farm Automation participated. As part of the panel discussion a demo of the Agrichat product from CDAC was also conducted.
The next Presentation was from Dr. Laxman R. H of Indian Council of Horticultural Research (ICHR) Bangalore, “Impact of Climate Change on Horticultural crops”. The last presentation was by Dr. Bani Jolly, Senior Scientist of Karkinos Healthcare. The objective of the presentation by Dr Jolly was on Genome sequencing being done for help in battling Pandemics. She also touched upon the need to forecast future pandemics because of global warming, especially due to melting permafrost in the Arctic regions. Participants also got a good idea on the kind of work the IEEE standards organization is doing in the area of Sustainability.
